现任中国美术家协会美术理论委员会主任，《美术》杂志社长兼主编、编审，中国美术家协会第七、八、九届理事，中国评协理事，全国城市雕塑指导委员会艺术委员会副主任，中国城市雕塑家协会副主席，中国画学会创会理事，中国油画学会理事，全国美展评审委员，文化部全国重点美术馆评估委员会委员，中国美术馆展览资格评审专家委员会委员，国家近现代美术研究中心专家委员会委员，国家当代艺术研究中心专家委员会委员，文化部第55、56、57届威尼斯双年展中国馆策展方案评审专家，中国北京国际美术双年展策展委员，上海美术学院、首都师大美术学院、西安美术学院、湖北美术学院、山东艺术学院和澳门科技大人文艺术学院特聘教授、博导等。2020年11月3日，当选为中国美术家协会第一届国家重大题材美术创作艺术委员会委员。
